Aim and Objectives

Global climate models (GCMs) are an essential tool in assessing potential impacts of climate change on our natural environment. Numerous GCMs exist from various institutions worldwide that are coordinated by the inter-governmental panel on climate change (IPCC)’s coupled model inter-comparison project (CMIP). With a particular focus on the prediction of marine surface winds used to project future wave climate, this project will undertake a critical review of the configuration and performance of the various GCMs.

The aim is to conduct a comparison of the global climate models by predicting the marine surface winds and other parametrization based on the fifth phase of coupled model comparison projects CMIP5.

The research area focus is on eight global climate models(GCMs)from CMIP5 model list.

(ACCESS1.0, BCC-CSM1.1, CNRM-CM3, GFDL-CM3, HadGEM2, INMCM4, MIROC5, MRI-CGCM3)

The objectives of the research are as follows,

To analyze and understand the similarities and differences in the eight GCMS, based on the four parts of computation grid, time step, governing equations (wind component) and coupling (Atmosphere-Ocean).

To conduct a comparative analysis on understanding how accurate are they in predicting marine surface winds?
