The leather import composition has been diversified since the beginning of 1990s. The essential shares within this period in the overall import was took by raw leather sector, processed leather sector and shoe industry. It is noteworthy that the shares of saddlery and leather ready wear industry were low. The leather industry import within Turkey was dependent on the raw leather which considered the entry of ready wear to be its basis. There was an increase in the demand of raw leather post 1980s due to the growth in the product export of leather ready wear sector . The exports were grown due to the insufficiency within the domestic raw leather supply. The sector’s raw material expense increased particularly due to the fluctuations in production of varied causes among the nations that were exporting. The important sector of Turkish leather is termed along with the export market of Russia as well as employment wherein the industry of Turkish leather took place in worldwide markers and not only Russia with 95 per cent structure of export and $1 billion revenue from formal export in the year of 2003.

There is a technological advancement in place at rapid growth enabling competitiveness and taking the sector of Turkish leader to a point where its own technology is exported. Turkey is enabled to produce associated machineries and chemicals that are essential in making leather and exporting it.
