understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities and commitment to them;
My professional and ethical responsibilities to the company that I was placed in, was to ensure that I worked with them in accordance with their rules and regulations and also followed their Corporate social responsibility to the code. Secondly I ensured that I was courteous and respectful towards all the staff. I maintained proper communication protocol with everybody, safeguarded and ensured the privacy of information that was entrusted to me and turned in all workplace information and data as was required by me to the appropriate people when the internship was completed. Even after leaving the workplace, I am committed to not sharing sensitive workplace data to anybody.
expectation of the need to undertake lifelong learning, and capacity to do so
Lifelong learning is a basic necessity of an engineer. An engineer cannot afford to complete studies and then join mainstream work to forget studying. The industry is fast changing. Materials that were used in construction in the past are now being replaced with more sustainable elements. Techniques of construction are being improved; planning systems have changed to a more holistic approach. Ethical standards and sustainability initiatives that one has to be aware of are improving by the day. In order to incorporate all this in routine working, one has to have a lifelong learning process. I believe I have the capacity undertake lifelong learning and I also believe that most workplaces are supportive of their engineers’ attempts towards improvement through learning.
