Conflict management theories often present conflict as an inherent part of the workplace. Conflict is considered as inherent to an organizational working. Where there are human resources involved, there is bound to be some conflicts. In the task, there were conflicts of staff complaints and non-cooperation. In real time setting, there would be protocols for conflict management and hence conflicts could have been handled in a better way. However, in the situation of the meet, we were not well prepared for the conflicts. We tried negotiation with the staff when there was non-cooperation, and the negotiation was two ways. We gave them a chance to explain their side of things, listened to their complaints and took in their suggestions. After the preliminary negotiations, the second round was much more successful.

Some of the barriers in task delegation were because of misunderstanding between different shifts. For instance, the cleaning of the deep fryer was misunderstood by day shift as being their responsibility only. Once we showed them with clarity that the cleaning of deep fryer, and the clearing of workstation had to be done by every shift, then they were more reasonable. Hence, it is my understanding through experience now that communication issues could be the foremost reason for conflicts in the workplace, and having a more open and transparent communication setting could be helpful.
