These sediments are all fitted into a cycle of coarsening-upwards Lake Delta cycles which are capped by fining upward fluvial units. Marine segments including restricted faunas are contained in the cycles. Pittenween formation is made up of mud and siltstone which are arranged in coarsening-upwards deltaic cycles having thin lining upward fluvial units which caps these cycles. Diverse faunas which are abundant in places form thin marine bands. A small percentage of algal-rich oil shale is included in mudstone and siltstone Van Wagoner (1988). Coarsening upward deltaic cycles which are in addition capped by inner fluvial units forms the sedimentation pattern. Marine faunas are very rare along with rare marine beds are present are usually restricted. Pathhead formation includes mudstone and siltstone with beds of limestone and dolomite. Moreover, it also contains coarsening upwards erosively capped by thinner and has upward fining fluvial units Loucks at al. (2007). Coarsening upward cycles of limestone, mudstone, sandstone and siltstone are repeated in Lower Limestone Formation. Thin beds of seat earth and coals cap some of these cycles. Merely repeated cycles of sandstone, mudstone and siltstone are included in Limestone Coal Formation Carpenter, (1978). Upper lime stone formation has coarsening upward cycles of limestone overlain by dark mudstones, siltstone, sandstone and calcareous mudstone. Coal and seat earths cap the sequence. Passage formation also has fine to coarse grained which alternate the structure less claystones.
Petroleum System overview
It became extremely difficult to outcrop samples in order to judge that they whether fit into stratigraphy of area or not. The relationships existing between them are not known as sequence. We have taken field samples from both the Firth and Forth. The Kinkardine East borehole penetrates the eastern limb of the Clackmannan syncline. Large two normal faults bound the site of the borehole. These two faults include Kincardine Ferry Fault and the Airth Church fault.
