The concept of perceptual distortion is basically considered as the incorrect understanding or wrong perception that has been developed by an individual through the observance of wrong objects. The concept of perceptual distortion mostly arises in the workplace when the response stimuli of the individual do not match with its perception. It has been seen that the level of perceptual distortion mainly arises within the individual due to various factors such as medication or drugs, cognitive biasness, psychological disorders and physical damage (Randle, 2011). Similarly, there are many organizations that encourage workplace diversity by hiring people from different backgrounds and culture working together as a team. In this type of situation, many employees within the organization who either belong to the same culture or religion tend to develop a perception leading to discrimination.

These perceptual distortions lead to discrimination forcing employees to disrespect and dishonour group of people from different origin, caste, and culture. For example, a women employee in hijab (a headscarf is worn by Muslim women) would develop perceptual distortions in other employees. They would develop a perception that all Muslims are terrorists and would discriminate her from the workplace. However, oversimplification of opinions due to outfit and religion is an example of perceptual distortion which ultimate would lead to discrimination (Akthar-Sheikh, 2016). This type of discrimination can cause huge setbacks for the business as the employees would not be able to work together for the achievement of the objectives of the business (Hatzis, 2011).
