According to Thompson (1988), methodology can be defined as ‘a set of methods, rules and principles, which helps in regulating a give subject as in the art of sciences”. In order to conduct a dissertation correctly, it is essential to follow a method which ensures step by step completion of the dissertation.
In order to complete this dissertation, methodology based on the literature review was used. However considering the empirical nature of the subject, it was essential to have certain element of quantitative work as well. Subject selected is related laptop companies and possible ways through which they can maintain their position in the market. In order to analyse this subject, it was important to analyse both literatures such as peer-reviewed journals, research papers, market studies etc. along with empirical work done in this field. Subject selected was such, that it would have been injustice with if the entire dissertation was done in a review based approach, that is why various research works were analysed which were empirical in nature, and had information about statistics related to the subject selected.
It is important to understand that literature and journals used for the dissertation were only to get an overview of the topic. Ideas and thoughts which were interpreted from them remains original and unique in nature.

Keywords can be defined as those words or area which are core to the entire dissertation. Considering the fact, laptop market, and its makers were the core focus of the dissertation, hence keywords such as laptop, Lenovo, personal computer, market growth, Dell, competitive advantage, mergers and acquisition, Tablet vs laptops, future of laptops etc. were used.
