Sihanoukville is another such tourist attraction that has the potential to be a big hit with the tourists. This is a city province in Cambodia which is the main seaport of the country and a developing beach resort. Located 200 km southwest of Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville has a population of 199 902 people. (2008, including rural communities). The urban population is 89,846 people. The city was founded in the 50 years of the twentieth century as a deep-water port. The construction project was sponsored by the French and the Americans had built the highway to the capital. After the overthrow of King Sihanouk, in which the city was built and after whom it was named, the city was renamed to Kampongsaom and then back to Sihanoukville. In the 90s of last century, the city has blossomed anew. It settled foreigners, opening cafes, restaurants, bookstores, and dive centers. The population is engaged in service in Sihanoukville tourism infrastructure and sea port.
