It is evident that external policies will not completely prevent corruption. There must be a change in individual ideology. Therefore, in this study, I will focus on how social factors influence offering behavior. Based on what Gneezy (2013) found in the research social expectations may have effects on people’s behaviors of offering incentives. After doing survey on participants’ perceptions about the gift and their decisions, researchers can make an assumption that the more the favorable the gift exceeds expectations. It is found that the stronger the positive response from the gift receiver, which can reasonably explain why in some situations, a large gift may not have influences on decisions as expected since it does not exceed expectations. Therefore, the social expectation of gift could be a factor that influences the behavior of both gift sender and receiver.

Testing social factors on people’s behavior is not easy since most of the behaviors cannot be observed directly by the scientists. There are the innate intrinsic factors that need to be considered in this system. Bicchieri (2006) argues two different expectations manipulate people’s choice on whether to obey a normative standards or not. This is based on peer perception or empirical expectations. For example, people usually argue that they have to send gifts because others are doing the same things. It is another form of peer pressure.Culturally in China, people have to present a gift to or find appropriate relationships to get into well known companies. Similar things are found to happen in classroom when teachers ask for extra incentives from students’ parents to teach their children fairly in China.
