There are various other reasons why smoking should be banned in public places. Apart from combating the bad influences that smoking has on people and the health hazards that other has to face because of the smokers who smoke in public, there are other advantages of prohibiting smoking in public. It includes further promotion of a healthier lifestyle which is smoke free. When government takes respective steps and bans smoking in public it sends out a clear message to the people of China which is that the government cares for the citizens. Further benefits include the reinforcement of public faith in the government of China. Also the message of clean and healthy lifestyle is sent out by the government when smoking is banned in public places. It keeps reminding the individuals that their life is valuable and should be protected from any kind of self-harm (Wang et al., 2014).
Further when smoking is banned in public it is seen that tries to safe guard the life of the smoker as well. Besides like it has been mentioned before smoking not only harms the smoker but also the person who is around him, these people can be called ‘passive smokers’ or ‘second hand smokers’. Studies have proved that people who are exposed to smoking face problems, like sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), asthma attacks in both children and adult, respiratory disorders and infections. Other major problems which can be seen in passive smokers include heart problems, lung and oral cancer. It is again a problem which arises due to smoking seen in both smokers and non-smokers. According to Center for Disease Control (CDC), the non-smokers are exposed to about 250 different kinds of chemicals when they face smokers, and out of this 50 are carcinogens. Though these diseases and problems have been mentioned specifically, there are other diseases and disorders which have been noticed in smokers and non-smoker whose ultimate cause is smoking. CDC says “The California Environmental Protection Agency estimates that second-hand smoke exposure causes approximately 3,400 lung cancer deaths and 22,700-69,600 heart disease deaths annually among adult non-smokers in the United States” (Wen et al., 2007). This is the same thing which can happen in China as well thus steps should be taken so that smoking can be banned in public places and at least the innocent lives can be saved from the harm of smoking.
