This book identifies some of the core concepts of the cultural theory and also informs that how these concepts could be applied to challenging aspects of the popular culture. Storey used the approach of Raymond William, for identifying culture. This essay aims to develop an understanding of the cultural theory and its application in the popular culture. Cultural Theory According to the definition of culture given by Raymond William, culture could be stated as a process of overall spiritual, aesthetic and intellectual development.

Such development in culture is basically dependent on the way of life. The second definition for ‘culture’ could be “be to suggest ‘a particular way of life, whether of a people, a period or a group” (p. 2). According to the Storey’s analysis, the main aspect of culture is to facilitate the creative and artistic works, which is also the third definition of culture. Assembling second and third definitions as stated by Storey creates the popular culture. Beliefs and philosophies are the core component of the culture or the cultural studies; these are also defined by the author through standard definitions. This is because; there is always a continuous debate on the exact meaning of the popular culture.
