Types of Workers in UK

In the vicinity of United Kingdom there are mainly three categories in which workers have been divided. These categories are namely; independent contractors, agency workers and employees (Barnard, 2012). The detail of these categories has been discussed below:

Independent Contractors

Independent contractors are referred to those workers that work for organizations independently. In other words, they are the workers that are responsible for making their own decisions regarding the working hours, usage of resources and deciding upon the deadline for the completion of work. The major advantage that workers can obtain by working as independent contractors is that their wages are not tax deductible (Deakin, and Wilkinson, 2005).

Employees

Employees are referred to those workers in an organization that are liable to duties and responsibilities assigned to them. The foremost benefit that a worker can obtain by working as an employee is that they have a right to obtain benefits and perks offered by organizations. Moreover, they also have a right to get paid sick leaves. However, wages of individuals working as employees are tax deductable. They are also not allowed to make company’s decisions independently (Twomey,  2012).

Agency Workers

Agency workers are referred to those workers hired as employees for a short span of time by an employment agency. These workers perform their duties as employees for a particular organization until and unless their agreement with organization terminates. Such type of worker is not entitled for employment protection rights (Finkin, et al., 2009).
