Catharsis Model: by Seymour Feshbach and Robert Singer
Catharsis model was developed by Seymour Feshbach and Robert Singer. This model proposes that people accumulate frustrations, which subsequently lead to aggressive actions. The televised scenes of violence experiences constitute mediated aggressiveness, which is used to relieve harmless feelings of hostility or frustration (Lowery, Shearon & Melvin 1995, p. 91).
Aggressive Stimuli Model: by Leonard
The model of the effects of the stimulus (or aggressive signs) was proposed by Leonard Berkowitz. He thinks that the exposure to aggressive stimuli increases physiological arousal and emotional stimulation, therefore, increases the likelihood of aggressive behavior (Hamilton and James 1998, p. 101). However, the effects of televised violence will depend upon a number of factors: the degree of frustration, delegitimizing violence acquiring the plot of the program, the degree of similarity to the viewer’s real life etc.
