The main objective of this report is to identify the impact created on social security system of Japan owing to the declining birth rate in Japan. For the purpose of attaining the research objectives, this report has taken into consideration the work done by four researchers by names Yukiko Katsumata, Yuki W P Heun, Tetsuo Fukawa and Takashi Oshio respectively and critically evaluated them. The papers that are considered for this study are “Expert Group Meeting on policy responses to population ageing and population decline”, “Policy Response to Declining Birth Rate in Japan: Formation of a “Gender-Equal” Society” ,”The Effects of the Low Birth Rate on the Japanese Social Security System and “The Japan Economic Currents: A Commentary on Economic and Business trends”, respectively. Besides, examining these papers, the report also list the research design and sampling units adapted by the researchers in their corresponding research work.
What is social security?
Spicker (2011, p 3) defines that social security is always written about as if it was concerned only with the poverty relief; several major debates are about how to do that more efficiently. However social security is offered for several other reasons. They also include social protection, prevention, economic policy and redistribution as well as social and economic measures intended to benefit society as a whole. Further goals include smoothing of income, compensation and the solidarity promotion. There is much more to benefit than offering a safety net or getting people back to work.
