Freud looked up from his martini and said, “Don’t use Religion as an excuse to overcome the worldly affairs that individuals are placed in, by source of the needs or wants that we have urbanized within us as a consequence of organic and emotional requirements.” [7] Rousseau smiled inwardly as he said, “We can take the great example of Socrates, an individual could not wish for a better way of dying than him, who died while amongst friend, doing what he does best, conversing about philosophy. On the other hand, one couldn’t hope for a far more terrifying death, such as of Jesus, who was put to rest through anguish, with invective, ridicule, and the nuisances of the entire community. Yet still, in the heart of such awful distress, Jesus prayed for the forgiveness of his brutal executioners. Therefore, it is illustrated and acclaimed that the life and death of a philosopher such as Socrates is much more decent than the life and death of Christ who is considered a God.” [8] As Freud opened his mouth to speak, Rousseau cut him off and continued, “When God creates something, it is with the utmost perfection and he does so by knowing everything and by overseeing all defaults and defects of it. However, as soon as something is left in the hands of the man, not only does it degenerate but a man uses it for selfish and other negative and evil means. [9] Freud analyzed what Rousseau had said and in return remarked, “Religion is an illusion and it derives its strength from the fact that it falls in with our instinctual desires.” [10] He continued on to say that, “One feels inclined to say that the intention that man should be “happy” is not included in the plan of “Creation.” [11]
